Management’s accountability is to lift annual performance by implementing fast projects that deliver process improvement and or innovation. Typically 4 – 6 projects are identified each year and they have the potential to transform results. These projects are delivered by a cross-functional team that includes relevant specialists.
Managers are required to manage an increasing number of projects. In most cases, operational managers have little formal project management training and lack the tools to manage complexity. We provide a Fast process and tools to simplify complexity and accelerate delivery.
Our Fast project approach eliminates common delivery problems that include:
- Lack of a clear process to provide a common roadmap
- Inadequate skills to implement the required actions
- Lack of enabling tools to simplify and accelerate delivery
Our Fast project process is implemented in four steps
- Create a project charter: A project charter defines the project and details what it is expected to deliver. A project charter typically includes a clear project purpose, description, statement of expected outcomes, a timeline, possible project risks and a budget
- Project plan: The project plan includes the tasks that need to be delivered to achieve the project outcomes. Project tasks have a set completion date that needs to be achieved for the project to be delivered on time.
- Project actions: The project actions defines what needs to be completed for the project tasks to be completed. Whilst actions are typically aligned to 90 day tasks, it is best to lock in 30 day actions and strive to complete all the agreed actions in this time.
- Project close-out: The project close-out includes the final project review. It assesses whether the project objectives have been completed and clients are satisfied with the outcome. It also includes a review of the key learning and recognises outstanding contributions.
Project structure and skills need to be set in place to ensure outcomes are delivered
- Project sponsor: The project sponsor is accountable for detailing the project charter, providing the required resourcing and ensuring outcomes are delivered.
- Project Manager: The project manager facilitates the process of designing the project plan and key tasks that need to be delivered.
- Project leader: Leads the project team and ensures all tasks are delivered on time. This includes providing the required training and removing possible roadblocks.
- Project team: Delivers the 30 day actions and provides feedback on outcomes. Project members meet at least weekly to ensure effective coordination and communication.
Our Fast technology simplifies and accelerates the delivery of actions
- Workflow: Projects are managed on line to enable managers to effectively manage workflow and assess impact on results.
- Skills: On line training allows project members to access skills skills on a just-in-time basis. Skills enable all team members to implement the required actions and build confidence necessary for success.
- Tracking: On line tracking enables the impact of actions and skills to be assessed. Results are typically tracked monthly and aligned with project reports.
- Culture: Culture is the group behaviour that determines how things get done. It is essential the right behaviours are set in place. Culture surveys are used to measure the impact of culture on results.
The effective management and delivery of projects is key to lifting performance.
